How It Works

Paint-A-Long with Pop Videos

My heart goes out to all those that are affected by COVID-19. Let's stay at home and flatten the curve.

If you're occupying your time at home with watercolor and looking for some inspiration, I'm posting videos for you to paint-a-long with me. I hope you'll find them useful, educational and that they help to take your mind off things for a while. Feel free to download, print and use my photo reference, notes, and finished demo painting. I'll be posting a new one each week.

If you like them, please consider leaving me a "tip" using the commerce button below. Enter any amount you'd like - all tips will be greatly appreciated.

I'm working on my YouTube page where I'll be posting more painting tips and tutorials. Click here to subscribe and never miss a post.

I hope you enjoy. Stay well and I thank you for your continued support!

"Spring Trees!"

For All Levels of Ability

It’s spring in New Jersey, things are blooming and it’s beautiful outside! After all, New Jersey is known as the “Garden State.” In this video we are going to paint a scene from the NJ State Botanical Gardens. We will create a simple clear blue sky, use art masking fluid to paint a forsythia bush (and other other flowering trees) and use a fusion wash to generate a shapely Japanese Maple tree.

"Tremont Harbor, MDI"

For All Levels of Ability

I love that moment in the early morning when heavy fog begins to burn off and the sun warms the landscape with soft pastel orange and greenish blue hues. In this video, we will paint a watercolor using large washes and progressively paint darker towards the foreground to capture that atmospheric quality. The subject of this painting is a harbor in Tremont, a sleepy little village located on "the quiet side" of Mount Desert Island, Maine.

"King Street, Rockport"

For All Levels of Ability

This street scene is reminiscent of the painters from the past who lived and worked in the art colonies located in Rockport and Gloucester, Massachusetts. The most notable were Aldro Hibbard, Edward Hopper, Anthony Thieme, and Ted Kautzky. In this video we will be trying to capture the feeling of sunlight by bathing our whites in light, golden washes, employing a wet-in-wet technique for the soft, blue shadows as they creep up the picket fence and clapboard siding and mix colorful sunlight greens using a simple blue/yellow color combination.
